Guys, moving to a new city/state is stressful. And overwhelming. And exciting. And a whole lot of other things so please forgive my lack of posting on here.
My blood has already thinned out. Once I made it through the brutal heat of August, it took me very little time to adjust to Florida weather. It was 50 degrees the other week and I was freezing. My family in Ohio is ashamed of me and rolling their eyes right now. But seriously guys, I'm bad luck when it comes to weather. My first year here and Florida has its wettest/most humid rainy season in years and TWO TORNADOES THAT ACTUALLY TOUCHED DOWN in the middle of "winter". I mean, come on! Tornadoes?!? Really?
It has been a very different experience moving here than it was moving to and from Italy. Part of me wonders if it has anything to do with the fact that I have all of my belongings here with me, but when I moved to Italy I only had a select few things. How do you decide what are the most important possessions you own? While I can't lie and say that I prefer Florida to Italy, I can definitely say that I feel more comfortable here with all of my stuff.
On top of that, I've been working and trying to make friends. Picking up and moving to a new place without a job already lined up is scary. I'm not ashamed to say that it took longer than I had hoped to find a suitable job. But I do have some advice for others in similar situations: don't just settle and take the first job that's willing to hire you out of desperation. Look for jobs you could truly see yourself happy at, otherwise you are simply wasting everyone's time. Obviously, if you need to take a temporary job to support yourself/family it's another story. Just don't let yourself get trapped there.
I almost became guilty of that, but I am finally untangling myself from that situation. Sadly, it means there is an overlap where I'm working two jobs, so any days off are rare. The only one I've had lately was President's Day. Do you want to know what I did? I went to the movies. Twice. Do you want to know what I saw? How to Be Single. Twice. How many times did I pay for it? Once. BOO-YA. Did I plan this? Nope. So yeah, that's where my life is at right now.
