Ready, Set, Not Just Yet.

IT'S MY LAST HOT NIGHT IN AMERICA.  For those of you who don't know, that's me slightly modifying the lyrics to one of the Goo Goo Dolls' new songs.  I find it quite appropriate because I'm pretty sure I nearly died of heatstroke today.

It has been a good week at home.  My grandparents were up visiting from Georgia and I was able to see them.  I also had plenty of time to spend with my parents and sister.  But my sister recently got Netflix, which might have eaten up some of my week home.  I blame Bones.

But seriously folks, I leave for Italy tomorrow!  I am very excited and I cannot wait to get back over there, but something about the more permanent feeling of this move has me pretty nervous.  Part of me is embarrassed about being nervous because I've traveled to Italy twice before and I am no stranger to being away from home.  Also, everyone knows how obsessed I am with Italy and being over there.  The other part of me knows its okay to be nervous in new situations.  I'm pretty sure I was just as nervous the other times I traveled abroad, and on each of those trips when I actually arrived I was able to relax.

The real issue is packing.  As usual.  It's REALLY difficult to pack a suitcase for a year when there is a 50 pound limit.  There are so many clothes that I had to take out of my suitcase when I went through it a second time.  For those of you who know how much I love clothes, you know it was an emotional experience.  Even some of my favorite things did not make the cut.  That darn winter coat.  And then I go through my room, cleaning in my ADD style, and find things all over that I realize I actually need.  Which means that another item of clothing gets the boot :(  It is very stressful.  One of the few times I hate being a woman.  But I am officially all packed and ready to go.

In current event news: the USA soccer team is playing Mexico in Columbus, which is basically where I live.  And tomorrow I am leaving for a country that treats soccer as a religion.  I'm gonna take that as a sign.

I am pretty excited to begin life as an au pair in Italy, but there are definitely some things that I will miss here in America.  Like my family... friends... and french fries.  The three F's.

And just in case you were wondering: My last real meal in America?  Bacon.  Obviously.
