So my 21st birthday was on Sunday - about time! Longest weekend of my life, but probably not for the reasons that most people would think. I finally got to leave the island on Friday afternoon, so I raced home to see the fireworks display in my town and to catch up with some friends. Once I got home, I was trying to get ready as fast as I could, just wearing whatever I brought with me from my dorm room. As it turns out, the outfit that I was wearing MATCHED ONE OF MY BEST FRIEND'S EXACTLY. How on earth does that happen??? I can understand that happening with random strangers - but with a close friend? We know each other's wardrobe.
Besides that, though, the fireworks were awesome and it was a fun night. After the fireworks, I went swimming at another friend's house which was great because I haven't had the chance to in awhile. Like since last summer.
On Saturday, I got to see the Goo Goo Dolls and Matchbox Twenty in concert - they were amazing!!! I always forget just how many Matchbox Twenty songs I know until I hear them. It was such a fun time. The only unfortunate thing was that traffic leaving the concert was horrible, and I did not get home until 5:30am on my birthday. And no, I had not had an alcoholic drink up to that point. Then I officially got up at 8:30am on my birthday, because we had some family in from out of town and I really wanted to spend time with them. We went out to lunch and then I continued my birthday tradition of buying scratch-off tickets and winning on at least one of them. This year I won $4, but I have yet to actually cash it. My actual birthday party was fun and very laid back. I got to see a bunch of friends and eat a real meal. We had a cook-out and bonfire. And someone pushed my face into the Sleeping Beauty cake that my mom got for me. Luckily, the cake was delicious.
Because my birthday was on a Sunday, and because I live on an island, I didn't become an official member of the horizontal license club until Monday morning. I couldn't stop looking at it for the rest of the day. It just seemed so surreal. My mom followed me back to the island for a mini-vacation, although I had to work on Tuesday morning, so she also brought a friend. We had fun both nights and it was nice to finally be able to go into the bars on the island after hearing so many stories and walking by them all the time.
The only downside lately has been the weather. I really hope that normal summer weather will make an appearance soon, because I actually have plans this month. Why couldn't it have been this bad all the weeks I wasn't doing anything???
All in all, I had a great birthday and I am very excited for the rest of my summer. Although, now it will be quite hard to resist the temptation of the bar right outside of the hotel lobby while I'm working these long desk shifts. But I will resist, because I am a good employee and my parents raised me right.
